Manteo...

Climbing to 3000 feet to clear NAS Oceana's class D airspace, we overflew the Cheasapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. With our groundspeed at a blistering 55 MPH, the only vehicles we passed were either fixing a flat or were anchored in the Bay.

While over-flying NAS Oceana, two F18's launched and rocketed out from under us and up into the clear blue sky. Out of sight in seconds, they were replaced by two F14's who entered the traffic pattern beneath us, executed a two second "break" and landed. We really appreciated our "airshow", sponsored by the U.S. Navy.

Finally, arriving at Manteo, NC, 108 miles from Cape Charles, Bob flew his pattern over the bay, and I over the airport, to announce our arrival. After beaching, we were met by a fuel truck and a few inquisitive pilots. We topped off the aircraft, our auxiliary tanks (fuel cans), and ourselves (Subway deli).
