Leaving Manteo...

At 1500, while in the FBO office, a telephone call came in from someone looking for a "seaplane pilot". As I had just overflown Manteo announcing our arrival, I told Bob that it must be for him. Bob exchanged a few words, then said, "no he's looking for you!" On the other end of the line was Ron Smith, a long time friend and retired Marine Corps Colonel, who resides in New Bern, NC.

Ron had been expecting us in New Bern at 1500 and was concerned when we did not arrive. He tracked us down to see what our updated plans would be. I told Ron that we should arrive in New Bern about sunset, 1715. Ron said that he would be waiting for us in his boat, secure us a cleaance to enter Craven County's Class D airspace, and direct us to our private beach, Phil Bowie's back yard.
