Day One: The sun broke... |
The sun broke over and through our hangars at about 0645. I, having worked form 2200 until 0600, was napping in my car, while Bob made last minute checks of both aircraft. At 0745, Bob woke me. We stowed our gear in the aircraft, pre-flighted, and made our final preparations for our trek southwest. In addition to our personal items, we each carried two extra five gallon fuel cans. As there would be only once actual seaplane base enroute, we needed to provide our own fuel. As planned, Bob flew the Piper J3, and I the Cessna 140. Bob's son Skip would attempt to parallel our course in the truck, just in case we needed assistance or experienced a mechanical problem. |
